Research Paper Name-Developing reading skill using different tools.
Subject-- English
Abstract--
Listening ,Speaking ,Reading and Writing are the four important skills to learn any new language. Through this research paper I would like to focus on 'Development of reading skill' of the fourth standard students. As my school is situated in village and the locality is rural, families are uneducated, my fourth class students could not read English word and sentences easily.
So, as a teacher for me It is very important for students to acquire these skills for their language development. For this I provide the different opportunities. From time to time I provide them letter cards ,word cards, picture cards, sentence cards.
The students listened to some video of the letters and words reading .This reading helped the students to understand the pronunciation of words. The students started reading English words in the books .
The students started reading sentences. Reading English gave them confidence.
Introduction--I am working as a primary teacher in Z.P.Primary School Gitewadi Ahmednagar District in Maharashtra State.My School is in mountain area.I teach fourth standard . There were ten students in my class.All these students could not read English words and sentences . English is the language of international comunicatoin . Therefore it is very important for the students know English.As a Primary teacher we face many problem about English language and about developing the students pronounciation skills.Even child read his mother tongue very easily because in his family he hears his mother tongue.
There is very easy to teach English language where people are speaking English language as a mother tongue.But in our state Maharashtra English is the third language.My school medium is marathi.So all students face the problem of English reading.So I decided to improve the student's English reading . I undertook various activities to improve the English reading of the students . It is very important for the students to acquir these skill for their language development.These four skills of language listening , speaking , reading and writing.Reading is a very important skill . It is a receptive skill.There are two kind of reading.
1) Loud Reading-- This reading is primarily an oral matter.It is closer to pronunciation than to silent reading for comprehension.
2) Silent Reading--Silent Reading is a basically used for fast reading and better comprehension.
Reading makes the leaner self reliant and autonomus in learning.At the primary level we expect the learners to recognize different shapes and symbols. I did this activity in a d out of the classroom.The aim was to develop students reading skill in English. The students used a variety of materials to read English words and sentences.For this I used different ICT tools and and offline tools from time to time.The students were afraid of English.My school is from first to fourth standard. Therefore primary education is the foundation of the national education.They should be able to read English well.I tired to ovhercome my fear of English.Verious activities were implemented to build confidence in English reading among the students.I have successfully implemented a variety of activities to develop students skill.If you can read well,
You can write well.
Various technology were used to develop reading skiil.Various technology were used to develope reading skill.
Object -
1) Eliminate fear of English in students.
2)Increasing English vocabulary among students.
3) Pronunciation fluently. Students communicate in English .
4)To develop reading skills in students. 5)Students should be able to read English word sentences.
6)Creating interest in English reading in students.
Method --
I used a variety of methods to develope students English reading skills.
1) letter card reading -
I created English letter cards to develope students reading skill. Students read with the help of letter cards. Practice reading English card from time to time .Practised English alphabet.
2) Picture Cards-- Aded letter card reading to picture card reading .
E.g.- b for ball ,d for dog.
3) Word Cards-- Practised word card reading after letter card reading.Aded pictures to word card reading with the help of the illustrator the students starded reading the words. Students began to form words from letters.I created word cards to read words.The words were sorted into black strips.Word cards and pictur cards were placed in the classroom. Students listened to word reading videos.Practised word reading on LED ,TV , Computer,Smart phone .Practised two letter words ,three letter BH words ,four letter words ,,,,,,usesd You tube to read English words.The students listened to the reading of the pronounciation.
